Sophomore Class Report for: April 5th – 11th

April 11, 2011 by Michael Murphy

The Sophomore Class will be working this week on acquiring paint for the Mural Project. Larry Lawrence was out of the office last week, pushing things back until he returns on Monday, the 11th. A motion for a money allocation to purchase paint should be expected next week. Painting will begin as soon as paint is purchased.

Jim Nabors may come to this week’s senate meeting to answer questions. The Final’s Breakfast was approved and Mr. Nabors has already acquired donations from General Mills and a company that makes muffins. The SGA will have to provide funding for juices if a donator can not be found. ARAMARK will also be supplying two workers to hand out the food on Monday and Thursday of Finals Week.

Freshmen Class Report for: 2/21/11- 2/27/11

February 18, 2011 by classpres

Date and time of meeting: 2/17/11 at 10pm in the Farris Hall Lobby

Present: Derrick Moses, JP Dickey, Luke Moix, Adam Price, Branson White

Not-Present: Josh McDonald and Aaron Owen

The Physical Plant got in contact with Luke Moix and we found out the estimate for adding a sidewalk would be $7,400.

We are still waiting on an email from Frank about spraying down the Student Center.

JP is working on a paper about the benefits of having a movie channel and he is working with John Gale.

Constitution Day Topics

1)      Why is there a freedom of speech zone?

2)      What are the limits put on printed material that is distributed on campus?

3)      Is limiting what you show/say on television unconstitutional?

We also started brainstorming new goals. We thought about trying to get an amendment passed were we can give senators the option to run for positions by either class year or credit hours.

We also want to do some kind of function where we give back to students. We are still thinking about that one.

Next meeting date and time:  2/24/11 at 10pm in the Farris Hall Lobby

Graduate Senator Report: January 24th – 31st

Met January 28, beginning 10:30 a.m. in the Senate Chambers
Present: Josy Morelle and Ryan Wadkins

1- Publishing Opportunities

Goal: find gaps where SGA may fill
Gaps in publishing opportunities include those that aren’t already formalized through graduate theses. Other than journals, other venues for publishing include magazines and newspapers
Ryan to meet with John Vanderslice (Exquisite Corpse) of the writing department before February 4th

2- Graduate Fair

Vision: A yearly marketing venue for campus wide departments to market their graduate programs, and students to be exposed to services as a graduate student

o Get buy-in from all stakeholders and possible participants
o Book an optimal room during a time that we believe is optimal (April 6th)

o Schedule meeting with Hank Phelps
o E-mail blast to all possible participants

Items and questions to include in the initial e-mail blast
o Vision to have the Graduate Fair to occur annually
o Possible date of occurrence
o Will you be able to have a departmental representative to present your graduate programs at the fair?
o Ask for feedback
o We will follow up with you on our progress

3-Think Small?

Vision: To create a more lively campus by engaging students on campus who feel their ideas are too small or that their ideas could never become reality. This may involve creating a greater understanding to students that SGA is ready to put into motion anything that is discussed during Open Forum, and that they may even be allowed to articulate the specifics of legislation after they introduce their idea to the Senate or it may involve crowd sourcing, similar to the Think Big project

o Initiate a project similar to the Think Big project to crowd-source ideas and turn them into SGA initiatives
o Think of a better slogan than “Think Small”
o Market
