Community Engagement Committee

The vision of the Community Engagement Committee is to promote engagement of UCA Students through connections with the city and campus communities as well as with the state of Arkansas.

The mission of the Community Engagement Goal Committee will be to promote the well being of UCA students by:

  1. Communicating with positions of authority in the areas of higher education and its services across the state of Arkansas;
  2. Strengthening the relationship between SGA and the Vice President of Institutional Advancement;
  3. Emphasizing election education to promote voter turnout;
  4. Voicing student concerns pertaining to higher education; and
  5. Searching for locally grown nutrition options and bridging the gap between UCA's campus and community food sources.

The goals of the Community Engagement Committee will be:

  • National Election Engagement Project:
    • Increase voter registration and education by providing information about registration and ways to register on campus and including information for people who are registered out of county or state.
    • Create a forum with political groups.
  • Locally Grown Food
    • Talk to Jim Nabors about contractually abiding options:
      • Partnerships with major/departmental programs on campus (i.e. community garden)
      • Farmer's Market Friday
      • Partnerships with local businesses that utilize locally grown food
  • Alumni Relations
    • Where Are They Now? - Forum about Fields
    • Senate Alumni Speaker Series
    • Senate Alumni Cookout
    • Visibility of Administrators

This committee meets on Sunday at 5PM in the Student Center.

Committee Members: Courtney Banning, Sophie Barnes, Katie Blalock,  John Gilbreath, Herstila Lallu, Carly Jo Riggins (Chair), and Ashlin Stock.

UCA’s average ACT Composite Scores for first-time entering undergraduates is above the Arkansas and National average and has been since 2002. In Fall 2017: Arkansas, 19.4; National, 21.0; and UCA, 24.3.
