Met at X-Period

We reviewed a report for the Spring 2014 semester and the current Fall 2014 semester from the centralized scheduling system in the Student Center. The Student Center averages one thousand events a semester. The centralized scheduling system EMS should be operational campus-wide by Fall 2015.

We discussed the three major projects occurring in the Student Center. The Student Center is currently in the process of putting in a larger generator that could support the entire first floor if the electricity went out. This project has been underway since January 2014. The Student Center is also in the process of changing the light fixtures to LED lights which should last 6-8 years. The project will cost $65, 000.00. A long-term project in the Student Center is the replacement of the carpet. Wood will replace carpet in the hallways and also as a border in the Ballroom. The new carpet will be more purple. This project should take the next 3 years and it will happen in increments. The Ballroom carpet will be replaced over Christmas Break, and the other carpet will be replaced over subsequent breaks.

The Student Center is looking in to adding more recycling bins on the first and second floors. Physical Plant will supply those bins. The bins will not be in the food court because of concern that students will not recycle the proper items. The Student Center will look into a tray model of recyclables and better trashcans for the food court that do not leak.

The Student Center Board also approved a fee adjustment for The Arkansas Symposium for Psychology Students hosted by the UCA Psychological Society. We approved to reduce rent by 50% and charge them set-up fees.

UCA’s average ACT Composite Scores for first-time entering undergraduates is above the Arkansas and National average and has been since 2002. In Fall 2017: Arkansas, 19.4; National, 21.0; and UCA, 24.3.
